Conclusion of the Yamantaka Drupchen
February 17th, 2015 | Published in NEWS
From 9th to 15th February 2015, Dilgo Khyentse Yangsi Rinpoche presided over the annual end of year Yamantaka drupchen(Shinjey). The ceremonies were conducted by Rinpoche, Gyalse Tulku, and 400 monks in the main temple of Shechen Monastery. Large tormas (butter sculptures) were made and sacred dances performed by the monks according to the tradition of this drubchen. A sand drawing was created under the large torma that was offered in a fire ceremony at the concluding seventh day.
A Dorje Phurba drupchen was simultaneously performed in the smaller Tara Temple. Our new audio system had its debut during the ceremonies and the chanting and music clearly resounded over the courtyard. The full creativity and artistry of the monks is evident in the beauty and detail of the tormas and way the dances were performed.
This is the first of a series of drubchens to usher in the Tibetan Year of the Sheep. There are more photos of this drubchen, the dances, and the ones that will follow on our Facebook pages. New photos are posted daily.
