Science Conference and Exhibition at Shechen Monastery, Nepal

Shechen Monastery, Nepal, will host “The World of Your Senses” : a conference and exhibition on five senses from the Western and Buddhist science perspectives  from November 14-18th.

This event is being organized by the Monastic Science Leadership made up of representatives from several major monasteries and nunneries including Geshe Lhakdor (Director of Library of Tibetan Works and Archives), Nyima Gyaltsen, (Director of Science Dept LTWA), and the science monks students of ETSI (Emory-Tibet Science Initiative).

Khenpo Shelnang from Shechen Monastery, who has attended Science and Buddhism workshops in Dharmasala, has organized this event at the Shechen Monastery. The exhibition is sponsored by the Sagar Family Foundation.

Matthieu Ricard will speak on the evening of the 14th on the relevance of the collaboration betweem Buddhism and science to bring about a better society. Other key speakers in the following days will include Geshe Lakdor (Head of LTWA), and Geshe Nyima Tashi from Sera Jey. They will discuss: the origin of universe/cosmos, evolution of life and its fundamental constituents, brain and mind, and the effects of meditation.

Participants will come from ten major monasteries in South India, including Sera, Dripung and Ganden Monasteries, three monasteries and nunneries from Dharmsala, and Mindroling Monastery in Northern India. It is a great honor for Shechen to host this innovative workshop, the first of its kind in Nepal. Registration is not required.
