Shechen’s Children

May 10th, 2015  |  Published in NEWS

At this traumatic time, Rabjam Rinpoche recently advised our Shechen older monks and staff to pay special attention to our 140 little monks, 45 of whom just entered the monastery. Some children are under 8 years old and are worried about the fate of their families and villages that are far way.

Luckily the little monks were attending a major empowerment in the monastery when the earthquake struck. They were not in their courtyard where they usually play at noon. It was showered by falling bricks and concrete.

In a joyful day early last month,  Khyentse Yangsi Rinpoche officially inaugurated the newly certified Shechen School – “Shechen Mahaboudha Vidyalaya”. Under the guidance of our experienced new principle, Jhabindra Kumar Subedi, and his staff, the children will follow both a monastic and secular curriculum. This enhanced education will ensure a better future for the monks and our monastery.

This week, school resumed classes and will provide the children with a sense of order and normalcy in a world where life has been turned upside-down and aftershocks continue to be felt.
